PINEY BAY borrowed its name from the swamp we live next to. We live right-on-the-edge of the Piney Bay Swamp and because of that thought it only appropriate to name this web site (created in 1996) Piney Bay. For those of you who don't know anything about the Piney Bay Swamp, did you know that the vines that grow in the Piney Bay Swamp have claws on them just like sharks teeth? And that the water in the bay has a green slime of algae on its surface and is overgrown with water lilies and other water borne vegetation that covers the top of it. You can hardly see where you are walking (or crawling) and in some places the vegetation is so thick that you can't even see your feet below you knees. Dead and rotten logs and vegetation layer the murky land beneath you. If you're lucky enough to find a semi clear spot to walk on, you will find yourself bogging up in murky peat moss and mud and sometimes you will fall right into a hole up to you neck in water. Piney Bay has a second name called Stay Out of It! A friend of mine and I learned that the hard way, from a personal encounter with Piney Bay Swamp. Click here for the rest of the story
